As the Sleep Technologist, you will be a vital member of a dynamic team working under the general supervision of the clinical director (M.D.) or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep study disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services of patient care and education.
Job Responsibilities- Performs but is not limited to full sleep studies, titration studies, HSTs, MSLTs, MWTs, sleep staging and scoring using polysomnography equipment.
- Collect, analyze and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient specific needs (physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent, medical and social history), and to determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.
- Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustment if necessary (i.e., computers, amplifiers, PAP machines, oximeters).
- Actively participate in department projects and programs including department inservice education programs as requested.
- Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists or other accredited registry (such as American Association of Sleep Medicine) as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist required.
- Three years experience or completion of formal training program in polysomnography preferred.
- RCP background preferred.
- Knowledge of EEG technology preferred.
- CPR certification required.
- Ability to trouble shoot computer, PAP machine and any other sleep equipment as needed.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Assembles, sets up and operates polysomnography equipment as associated with patient and computer as determined by specific testing required according to accepted standards.
- Explain pre-testing, testing and post testing procedures to the patient.
- Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and make adjustments if necessary.
- Perform positive airway pressure (PAP) testing and proper mask fitting.
- Follow procedural protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data.
- Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.).
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned responsibility. Possesses ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements to age‑specific needs. Consistently seeks ongoing education and training to maintain an awareness of how best to provide appropriate care based on age‑specific needs.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
