The Production Operator is tasked with operating John M. Dean Co. process equipment to enable the forming of raw wire into a finished product for our customers. This equipment includes (but is not limited to) straightening and cutting machinery, grinding equipment, mechanical presses, final cut machines, bending fixtures, heat treating furnaces and tempering ovens, barrel tumblers (wet and dry process), sorting fixtures, assembly fixtures, hand trucks, media separators, hoists, and other equipment to support the flow of product through the metal finishing process.
A variety of hand tools may be used during a normal shift, such as transfer shovels, brooms, pick tools, screwdrivers, wrenches, and other miscellaneous tools to support the uptime of machinery and to promote a clean working environment.
- Read and understand job routers/travelers and instructions for the purpose of completing jobs.
- Operate various equipment as listed in the summary.
- Use material handling equipment such as hand trucks and media trucks to move product within the facility.
- Perform preventive maintenance for manufacturing equipment and related facilities. This includes:
- Lubricating gearboxes, bearings, and pinion gear sets periodically.
- Cleaning of dust/debris from the equipment and work area daily.
- Visual inspection of equipment prior to and during operation.
- Monitor operation of equipment and make recommendations for reactive maintenance to the Production Manager.
- Utilize measurement equipment such as micrometer, caliper, and 6" scale.
- Ensure all product is manufactured per the documented requirements.
- 1+ year(s) experience in a manufacturing environment as an equipment operator or other mechanical discipline.
- Previous machining experience is not required but is preferred.
- Ability to read and understand/interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and customer related documents such as instructions on job routers, prints, production records, and customer prints.
- Must be able to use a caliper, micrometer, optical comparator, protractor, and other necessary inspection tools (Metric and Standard/SAE).
