JOB TITLE:
Press Operator
SUMMARY:
Operates Stokes compression press to form powdered pills into finished, cured buttons by performing the following duties.
- Operate assigned press.
- Load pills on the loading board, insert onto cavities, start press to cure buttons, remove cured buttons, and begin the process again.
- Meet established production goals.
- Remove obvious defects, pills and buttons from the production lot and notify the Group Leader if a lot is exceptionally poor.
- Grease mold posts at the start of the shift.
- Clean area at the end of shift, including around the press and under work benches.
- Notify Group Leader or Floor worker if any press equipment needs repair (e.g., oil or steam leaks).
- Sign off on daily production sheet.
- Ensure area and equipment are kept clean and maintained.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Not required.
Work in a safe and efficient manner.
Safety equipment required:
Safety glasses, burn sleeves, hearing protection on certain presses. Optional dust mask and gloves are available on a personal discretionary basis.
- Good attendance required.
- Ability to read basic English, recognize similarities and differences between words, print and speak simple sentences.
- Mathematical skills: add and subtract three‑digit numbers and multiply/divide using units of American weight measurement.
- Reasoning ability: apply commonsense understanding to carry out simple one‑ or two‑step instructions and handle job‑related situations.
- Ability to operate a Stokes compression molding press.
- No certificates, licenses or registrations required.

The employee is regularly required to stand, frequently use hands for loading and catching boards, pills or controls, reach with hands and arms, occasionally walk, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work EnvironmentEmployee works near moving mechanical parts, frequently exposed to heat, especially in summer. Noise level usually moderate; hearing protection required on certain presses.
