• Accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients in the Emergency Department
• Assess the health status of patients/families by means of comprehensive health history and physical examination
• Initiate selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations, interpret findings, and alter plan of care according to collaborative practice agreements and protocols in the designated area
• Educate and counsel in the areas of health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses
• Document findings and plan of care in the patient's medical record
• Consult with physician per established Day Kimball Hospital policy
• Intervene to provide a safe environment and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions for patients

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing is required
• Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of Connecticut is required
• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification or equivalent is required; if not currently certified, must obtain within three (3) months of employment
• Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area

• Ability to recognize unsafe and life‑threatening situations and how to intervene appropriately
• Demonstrated skills in critical thinking, effective communication, organizational skills, problem solving, and ability to make appropriate independent decisions
• Working knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice
• Demonstrated compassionate customer service and ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues
• Solid foundation in evaluating plans of care and reformulating as necessary
