Day Kimball Health is seeking a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) to join our Maternal Child Health department in Putnam, Connecticut! The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) is a clinician with advanced academic preparation and clinical expertise in neonatal care. The scope of practice reflects the education, training, and experience of the clinician in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. Care is delivered through a collaborative healthcare model involving physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, patients, families, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to neonatal care.

The NNP provides clinical leadership through direct patient care, consultation, education, research, and professional development activities.

  • Assesses, manages, prescribes, and evaluates appropriate therapeutic and pharmacological interventions for routine and acutely ill newborns in accordance with established standards of practice.
  • Consults with collaborating physicians and other healthcare professionals or agencies when patient needs exceed individual scope of expertise or require additional services for coordinated care.
Education
  • If licensed after 1999, Master Degree in Nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program required.
  • Certification from a nationally recognized Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program required.
  • Current Federal DEA and State Controlled Substance License required.
  • Current Connecticut State APRN Licensure required.
  • Current NRP and BLS training required.
  • Be granted and maintain in good standing appropriate Day Kimball Hospital (DKH) Medical Staff privileges.
  • In order to maintain advanced neonatal care skills, the NNP will be required to work in another institution’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) a minimum of 200 hours per year, or approximately two 12-hour shifts per month.
Experience
  • 3 Years’ experience as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, or in a clinically equivalent role (such as NICU nurse).
Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) Knowledge

Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to distinguish between normal and abnormal findings during patient history and physical examinations to establish accurate diagnoses.
  • Ability to plan and manage patient care needs, including medications, nutrition, and therapeutic interventions.
  • Ability to communicate plans of care effectively to interdisciplinary team members.
  • Ability to consult with healthcare team members regarding treatment plans and guidelines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Demonstrated communication, interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills; ability to maintain positive working relationships with physicians, nurses, and hospital personnel.
  • Demonstrated advanced clinical decision-making and leadership capabilities.
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse patient populations.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and advanced practice nursing standards.
  • Ability to work independently; must be self-directed and adaptable.
