Day Kimball Health is hiring for a Public Safety Officer to join our Public Safety department in Putnam, CT. This position is Part Time (32 hours per week) night shift (11:00 PM–7:00 AM), with rotating weekends.

Job Summary

Provides Public Safety services for all persons on hospital premises and protects hospital property from loss due to fire, theft, or vandalism. Provides switchboard operator and dispatch duties, answering and directing all calls, operating the fire alarm panel and emergency paging systems. Clearly directs emergency responders to the fire scene or location of emergency. Interacts effectively with people under stressful circumstances and takes appropriate action, e.g. 'Crisis Team', 'Uncooperative Patients', or 'Mr.

Muscle', handling fire alarms and hazardous material spills.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular patrols of the hospital and grounds to ensure that all persons are protected from fires or unwanted visitors; interact with hospital staff and outside law enforcement agencies; observe and report criminal behavior occurring on the premises.
  • Maintain a visible presence in the Emergency Department, performing various security assignments and functions under the direction of the Public Safety Manager or Lead Public Safety Officer.
  • Respond to calls to assist with security and safety matters, helicopter landings, and emergency situations.
  • Conduct regularly assigned fire drills, fire extinguisher inspections, and exterior lighting surveys.
  • Operate the hospital switchboard, communicating with the public, patients, physicians, and employees; transfer calls to third parties and provide directions as needed.
  • Operate the fire alarm panel, emergency paging systems, and Resusci Team emergency call system.
  • Spread overhead emergency announcements and give clear direction for responding fire brigade or emergency responders.
  • Report any issues with switchboard operation to the IT department and Security Supervisor for quick response and resolution.
  • Prepare and write daily shift logs of shift activities; write Public Safety Incident Reports.
  • Intake, return and store Lost and Found items; maintain Lost and Found Log and storage closet.
  • Secure sealed Patient Valuable Envelopes in the Public Safety Department safe; complete PVEs and maintain PVE Log of valuables.
  • Perform patient and visitor searches for contraband or other dangerous items as requested.
  • Monitor Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) cameras for suspicious activity or investigations inside and outside the hospital.
  • Enforce hospital access control through proper issuance of employee, contractor, and temporary badges; update temporary/contractor badge spreadsheet.
  • Manufacture replacement employee s and volunteer s using badge-making software and machine.
  • Perform key inventory checks; issue keys and file signed employee key agreement forms appropriately.
  • Respond to emergencies with coordination of crowd control, vehicle control, and, when required, hospital lockdown procedures.
  • Receive alarm notifications for motion detection sensors, burglary and property intrusions; contact police for follow‑up and coordinate with off‑site key holder and Facilities Management.
  • Perform parking lot patrols; enforce parking policy; issue parking infringement notices for non‑compliance; update parking violator spreadsheet.
  • Input employee, volunteer, and physician vehicle details and parking sticker numbers into logs and  system.
