SUMMARY
The classroom teacher will create a learning environment that implements the district curriculum, provides positive learning experiences, and supports student growth.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Prepare lesson plans and develop instructional programs for student groups.
- Implement district‑approved curricula aligned with state and federal standards.
- Report incidents of child abuse, altercations, and substance abuse.
- Deliver clear instruction using diverse teaching strategies.
- Conduct ongoing assessments, monitor progress, and provide feedback.
- Establish standards of student behavior for a safe environment.
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and guardians.
- Maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and external contacts.
- Maintain confidential records in compliance with law.
- Attend staff meetings and extracurricular activities for professional growth.
- Collaborate with special education staff to meet special needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Washington State Teacher certificate with appropriate endorsement(s).
- Education and experience that meet Washington State and federal learning standards.
- Knowledge and skill in instructional principles, methods, and techniques.
- Knowledge of state assessments and graduation requirements.
- Knowledge of district‑adopted curricula.
- Knowledge of procedures/policies in the student referral process.
- Skill in classroom management and positive behavior techniques.
- Skilled in organizational techniques; reading, writing, oral communication.
- Ability to build positive relationships, work collaboratively, and serve a diverse student population.
- Ability to comply with district policies and professional conduct code.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and parents from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to continue professional development.
- Ability to integrate technology resources into the curriculum.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Adaptability and flexibility.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Role model behavior and treat students professionally.
LICENSING / SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Successful clearance of criminal justice fingerprint and background check.
CONDITIONS
Required to handle a wide range of student achievement and behavior issues, frequent interruptions, and exposure to infectious diseases.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling; use of computer and handheld devices; lifting up to 30 pounds.
- Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, focus.
- May need to climb stairs or use elevators.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
- Moderate to loud noise levels.
