SUMMARY: The Para educator-Instructional Support position assists certificated staff in supporting the academic, behavioral, social, and emotional success of students in a classroom and school setting. Under the direction of the classroom teacher or designated staff, the para educator provides instructional support through individual, small group, and classroom assistance; reinforces lessons and interventions; supports positive student behavior; supervises students in various school environments;
and assists with classroom organization, instructional materials, and student engagement. Responsibilities may vary based on student, classroom, program, and building needs and may include support across general education, intervention, enrichment, cultural learning, and other instructional settings.
ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS: Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200+ tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools to be funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Supports classroom teachers with daily instruction, classroom routines, student supervision, and implementation of lesson activities.
- Provides instructional support to students individually, in small groups, and during whole‑class activities under the direction of certificated staff.
- Reinforces instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, cultural learning, social skills, and other assigned content areas.
- Supports remediation, intervention, enrichment, extension, and re‑teaching activities based on student needs.
- Assists students with classwork, assignments, projects, organization, study skills, and completion of instructional tasks.
- Helps prepare, organize, distribute, collect, and maintain instructional materials, classroom supplies, technology, and learning resources.
- Supports students in using classroom technology, adaptive tools, learning platforms, and other instructional equipment.
- Observes and documents student progress, participation, behavior, work completion, and other information as directed.
- Assists with informal assessments, progress monitoring, testing support, and proctoring consistent with school procedures.
- Implements teacher‑directed accommodations, modifications, behavior supports, and instructional strategies.
- Supports positive student behavior using school wide expectations, de‑escalation strategies, redirection, and relationship‑based practices.
- Assists with student supervision in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, playgrounds, recess, assemblies, field trips, arrival, dismissal, and other school settings.
- Supports student transitions between classrooms, activities, services, buses, and school locations.
- Assists with maintaining a safe, orderly, respectful, and culturally responsive learning environment.
- Provides support for students’ social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Communicates student needs, concerns, progress, and incidents to the classroom teacher, building administrator, or appropriate staff.
- Collaborates with teachers, specialists, intervention staff, counselors, administrators, and other school personnel to support student success.
- Supports implementation of school rules, classroom expectations, emergency procedures, safety drills, and crisis response protocols.
