Rate: PESPA Level 3
Provide academic instruction and support in the Support Center setting. Deliver instruction in modified curriculum, functional academics, daily living skills, prevocational/vocational skills, behavior skills, and social skills. Work primarily with one student. May ride the school bus for transportation. Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date documentation of student progress and instructional activities.
Qualifications- Be at least eighteen years of age.
- Hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Meet one of the following: hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university; earn 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher from an accredited college or university; or score 65% or higher on The Master Teacher Inc. Para educator Online Training Program (not administered by PSD).
Candidates must upload documentation verifying that they meet the stated requirements. This includes an official college transcript, a passing score on Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment, or a passing score on the Master Teacher Inc. Paraprofessional Online Training Program. If submitting an assessment score, proof of a high school diploma or its equivalent must also be provided.
Conditions of Employment- Completion of the state‑mandated General Para educator Certificate is required.
- The Para educator Certificate Program offers statewide standards‑based training and a career growth ladder.
- Staff must complete 28 hours of training on the Fundamental Course of Study (FCS). The first two days of FCS training must be completed within four months of hire, the second two days within six months, or by September 1 of the next school year. The general certificate is earned by completing ten days (70 clock hours) of professional development training.
