SUMMARY: The Secondary Math Teacher develops and delivers rigorous, engaging, and culturally responsive mathematics instruction that empowers middle and high school students to become confident mathematical thinkers, problem solvers, and lifelong learners. The teacher creates an inclusive learning environment where all students are challenged to think critically, communicate mathematically, persevere through complex problems, and apply mathematical concepts to real-world situations.
Using research-based instructional practices, formative assessment, and data-informed decision-making, the Secondary Math Teacher differentiates instruction to meet the diverse academic needs of learners while maintaining high expectations for every student. The teacher builds strong relationships with students and families, collaborates with colleagues to improve instructional practice, and contributes to a positive school culture that supports academic excellence, student belonging, and college and career readiness.

ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS: Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200+ tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools to be funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Develops and delivers rigorous standards-aligned mathematics instruction that promotes conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving.
- Designs engaging lessons that encourage inquiry, critical thinking, collaboration, and productive mathematical discourse.
- Establishes and maintains a safe, inclusive, respectful, and culturally responsive classroom environment where students feel supported and challenged.
- Uses a variety of instructional strategies, technology, manipulatives, and real-world applications to increase student engagement and achievement.
- Differentiates instruction to meet the academic, social-emotional, linguistic, and cultural needs of diverse learners, including students receiving special education, multilingual services, and advanced learning opportunities.
- Utilizes formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning, provide timely feedback, adjust instruction, and improve student outcomes.
- Analyzes student achievement data to identify learning gaps, develop targeted interventions, and accelerate student growth.
- Implements Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) strategies and collaborates with intervention teams to support struggling learners.
- Maintains accurate student records, grades, attendance, and progress monitoring documentation in accordance with district requirements.
- Collaborates with counselors, specialists, administrators, para educators, and families to support students' academic and behavioral success.
- Communicates regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, achievement, attendance, and strategies for continued growth.
- Integrates technology effectively to enhance instruction, assessment, communication, and student learning.
