The Secondary Art & Graphic Design Teacher provides educational instruction in Art and Graphic Design to Secondary aged students utilizing teaching techniques that are consistent with school established objectives.

About Chief Leschi Schools:
Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200+ tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools to be funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.

• Communicates clearly, both orally and in writing
• Plans and coordinates the Secondary art program; teaches skills in art to students using an effective curriculum; and guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals
• Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects; and communicates these objectives to students
• Uses effective classroom management strategies
• Evaluates students' academic and social growth; keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports
• Regularly communicates with parents and/or guardians through conferences, phone calls, grade updates and other means to discuss student progress
• Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems
• Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, as well as professional growth activities
• Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday
• Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities
• Works effectively with para-educators and other staff members
• Performs other duties as assigned by administrator
• Teaching middle level visual art
• Teaching high school graphic design as part of the secondary elective and/or CTE program
• Obtaining and maintaining a conditional CTE certification for graphic design, as required by the assigned course and program structure (if required.)
• Developing and delivering hands-on, project-based instruction in visual art, design thinking, creative process, craftsmanship, critique, and visual communication
• Teaching graphic design concepts and skills, including layout, typography, composition, branding, digital media, image editing, publication design, portfolio development, and responsible use of creative technology
• Supporting students in the use of digital design tools, creative software, instructional technology, art materials, and design-related equipment
• Maintaining a safe, organized, and accessible art and design classroom, including management of supplies, equipment, tools, materials, student work, and storage systems
• Teaching and reinforcing safe, ethical, and responsible use of art materials, tools, classroom equipment, digital design platforms, images, media, and online resources
• Developing student portfolios, exhibitions, showcases, displays, design products, or other public-facing demonstrations of student learning
• Integrating Indigenous perspectives, tribal values, community connections, and culturally sustaining practices into visual art and design instruction whenever appropriate
• Connecting visual art and graphic design instruction to real-world applications, including creative careers, visual communication, entrepreneurship, school-based design needs, and community projects
• Supporting CTE-related requirements for the graphic design course, which may include course documentation, program records, industry alignment, advisory input, career-connected learning, and related compliance tasks
• Collaborating with staff, programs, families, tribal partners, community artists, businesses, or other partners to expand student learning opportunities in art, design, and creative career pathways

Teaching financial literacy or related elective coursework if assigned, based on certification, scheduling, student need, and program requirements.
