About UsHeath & Associates is a transportation engineering firm based in Pierce County, Washington. Since 1989, we've completed over 4,000 traffic studies for clients throughout the Pacific Northwest. Our work spans private and institutional development, including residential, commercial, and industrial projects, as well as a growing portfolio of public-sector projects for small cities and local agencies.
The RoleWe're looking for an experienced Transportation Engineer to carry a full project workload of traffic analyses for private, institutional, and public-sector clients. You'll run studies from scoping through final deliverables, coordinating directly with clients and reviewing agencies. Design experience is a plus — we're growing our in-house design capabilities and there's opportunity here for someone who can contribute on that side as well.
Your work will be supported by two senior licensed engineers. We expect you to be on a path toward PE licensure and able to obtain it within two years of hire.
What You'll Do- Perform intersection and corridor operations analyses using Synchro and Sidra software
- Prepare traffic impact analyses, trip generation studies, and feasibility studies for private development
- Prepare Intersection Control Evaluations (ICEs) based on WSDOT standards
- Develop traffic volume forecasts and trip distribution patterns
- Draft technical reports for agency review
- Coordinate with clients, review agencies, and other stakeholders
- Conduct vehicle turning movement analyses using AutoTURN
- Prepare figures, exhibits, and supporting graphics in AutoCAD
- Perform safety analyses, sight distance evaluations, queuing studies, and parking studies
With design experience, you may also:
- Design Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) and other pedestrian safety improvements
- Prepare traffic signal designs
- Perform illumination analyses and develop lighting design plans
- A varied, steady project workload — you'll be productive from day one
- Direct client interaction and project ownership, not layers of middle management
- A growing design practice you can help shape
- Collaborative team with two PE/PTOEs providing technical support and mentorship
- Flexible work arrangement (open to discussion)
- A firm with 35+ years of client relationships across the Pacific Northwest
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in traffic analysis or transportation engineering
- Proficiency with Synchro and Sidra
- Strong technical writing and client communication skills
- EIT certification and ability to obtain PE licensure within two years
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, transportation engineering, or a related field
Preferred:
- Experience with AutoCAD and AutoTURN
- Background in traffic signal design, RRFB design, or illumination analysis/design
- Familiarity with MUTCD, AASHTO, WSDOT, and Pacific Northwest jurisdictional requirements
- Experience working with small cities or local public agencies
