Role Overview
The COS Improvement Engineer will apply engineering and Lean Six Sigma knowledge to identify, scope, and manage projects that improve process control and plant efficiency. The position requires building strong working relationships, communicating effectively with plant personnel and management, and executing improvement activities. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills are required. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with occasional overtime and weekend work.
Travel is required 20% of the year.
- Apply engineering knowledge to manufacturing processes to identify improvement opportunities.
- Perform root cause analysis to reduce process variability.
- Utilize statistical analysis and software tools to evaluate manufacturing data.
- Prepare written justifications for approved capital expenditures (ACEs).
- Play a key role in advancing CCM’s lean journey across the organization.
- Facilitate events and meetings focused on manufacturing improvements and cost reduction.
- Track and report project savings.
- Coordinate and manage numerous teams and projects to execute and sustain improvement projects.
- Identify and prioritize potential manufacturing improvement projects in responsible plants.
- Attend and facilitate Kaizen and other continuous improvement events throughout the organization.
- Work with the COS team to further drive the overall COS journey to establish a culture of continuous improvement throughout CCM.
- Research and prepare written justifications for capital expenditures.
- Operational understanding of manufacturing, business software systems, and customer expectations.
- Proficiency with fundamental Lean tools such as Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Mistake Proofing, TPM, MDI, Root Cause Analysis, etc.
- Strong understanding of Six Sigma tools and approaches including DMAIC, Measurement System Analysis, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Process Capability, Experimental Design (DOE), etc.
- Effective project and time management techniques.
- Working knowledge of various software systems including Microsoft Office, SAP, Minitab, Wonderware, etc.
- Strong verbal and written communication, presentation, problem‑solving, analytical, conflict resolution, listening, coaching, and facilitating skills.
- Ability to identify, scope, and execute numerous improvement projects simultaneously.
- Capacity to communicate complex theories in simple terms to all levels of the organization.
- Effectively articulate technical details in written form.
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in Industrial, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
- 2+ years of experience in a lean Six Sigma enterprise or equivalent educational experience.
- Lean Champion Certification and Six Sigma Green/Black Belt is a plus.

Per the state’s Wage Transparency Act, the range for this position is $67,567–$94,594. Actual salary could be greater based on education, experience, and other qualifying skill sets.
