About the Role

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as the District's senior financial executive and is responsible for the overall financial strategy, stewardship, integrity, and long‑term sustainability of the District. The CFO provides leadership for all business and financial operations; ensures fiscal accountability, transparency, and compliance with applicable laws and standards; and serves as the principal financial advisor to the Executive Leadership, the Superintendent, and the Board of Directors.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, public administration, or a related field required;
    Master's degree preferred.
  • Seven years of progressively responsible senior‑level experience in financial or business leadership within a large, complex organization. Experience with public sector finance, audits, budgeting, debt management, and regulatory compliance is strongly preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in Washington K‑12 school finance.

  • Current school district accounting and payroll rules and practices
  • Federal and state rules and regulations applicable to finance, accounting, and payroll
  • State and federal statutory requirements relating to school finance and budgeting
  • District policies and regulations relating to business/finance
  • Washington education codes and State funding systems
  • School K‑12 accounting principles and reporting standards (GASB preferred)
  • Long‑range financial planning, internal controls, and audit processes
  • Budget development, enrollment projections, tax levies, bond financing, and capital funding

Skills

  • Provide executive‑level financial leadership and strategic advice
  • Direct enterprise‑wide budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Analyze financial risk and develop mitigation strategies

Abilities

  • Make high‑impact financial decisions in a public accountability environment.
  • Lead and develop high‑performing financial teams.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with executive leadership, Board members, auditors, regulatory agencies, and the community.
Licenses/Special Requirements
  • Valid Washington State driver's license and evidence of insurability.
  • CPA, CGFO, or comparable professional certification preferred.
  • Must be eligible for bonding.
