Celebrating 85 Years of Building With Purpose

At Absher Construction, we’re proud to celebrate over 85 years as one of the Pacific Northwest’s most respected general contractors. As a 100% employee‑owned company, we believe our people are our greatest asset and we invest in them like it! From fully paid medical premiums for employees, to a generous PTO policy, 401(k) and ESOP retirement benefits, we offer a total rewards package that reflects the pride and ownership we bring to every project.

As Director of Preconstruction, you will lead the full preconstruction lifecycle across multiple projects, from pursuit and early planning through handoff to operations. You’ll work closely with executive leadership, business development, and operations to ensure projects are thoughtfully planned, accurately scoped, and aligned with Absher’s strategic goals.

This role blends strategy, technical leadership, and people development. You’ll set standards, guide teams, shape client experiences, and ensure accuracy, accountability, and readiness before construction begins.

What You’ll Do
  • Set Preconstruction Strategy
    • Lead the overall preconstruction approach to align client needs, project goals, and business objectives
    • Partner with the President, EVP, Business Development, and Operations teams on early project decisions, budgets, schedules, risk strategies, and pro forma assumptions
    • Establish and maintain consistent preconstruction standards, tools, and processes across the organization
  • Lead and Develop Teams
    • Mentor and support preconstruction managers and multidisciplinary teams including estimating, scheduling, BIM, QA/QC, safety, and project staff
    • Foster a collaborative, accountable environment that reflects Absher’s values and commitment to developing people
    • Conduct audits and lead monthly reporting to ensure quality, consistency, and construction readiness
  • Shape the Client Experience
    • Build trusted relationships with owners, design partners, and subcontractors
    • Lead collaborative planning sessions focused on constructability, value creation, risk mitigation, and realistic scheduling
    • Present conceptual budgets, milestone estimates, and GMP development with clarity and confidence
  • Drive Accuracy and Accountability
    • Oversee conceptual and detailed cost modeling, value engineering, and budget alignment
    • Manage bid solicitation, proposal reviews, subcontractor scope vetting, and early procurement strategies
    • Maintain variance reporting and Budget Control Logs to track changes and support informed decision‑making
Why You’ll Be Successful

You bring a builder’s mindset with a strategic lens. You know how to lead teams, simplify complex information, and influence outcomes early. You value accuracy, collaboration, and integrity, and you enjoy helping others grow into strong leaders.

What You Bring
  • 8–10+ years of leadership experience in preconstruction, estimating, or related construction management roles
  • Strong understanding of design phases, constructability, cost drivers, and planning for commercial or industrial construction
  • Experience leading teams and collaborating across disciplines
  • Clear, confident communication skills with clients and internal partners
  • Familiarity with industry tools such as Bluebeam, Procore, P6, and related software
  • Leadership grounded in accountability, integrity, and people development
