Boeing Commercial Airplanes is excited to offer opportunities for a Wing Skin Preparation Mechanic to join our Fabrication team in Puyallup, Algona, and Auburn, Washington.

As a Wing Skin Preparation Mechanic, you will be at the forefront of our manufacturing process, playing a vital role in the assembly and preparation of critical aircraft components. Your expertise will be essential as you operate overhead cranes to efficiently move parts, ensuring that each wing skin, spar, and web is meticulously prepared for storage or transportation. You will engage in a variety of tasks, from setting up and adjusting shot peening equipment to applying surface finishes that meet our high-quality standards.

You will play a critical role in upholding our commitment to safety and quality standards, ensuring that all operations meet regulatory compliance and operational excellence. Responsibilities
  • Prepare finished wing skins, spars, webs, and other components for storage or transportation by removing tabs and ensuring proper surface preparation.
  • Set up, operate, and adjust shot peening equipment to perform surface conditioning on parts, materials, and tools, ensuring compliance with quality specifications.
  • Operate ground-controlled handling equipment, including overhead cranes, to load and unload parts and move them within the shop.
  • Review engineering drawings and work orders to determine job requirements and ensure all previous operations are complete.
  • Conduct drilling, countersinking, riveting, and sanding as necessary to complete work assignments.
  • Use precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Mask or shield surfaces of parts that need protection during shot peening and other processes.
  • Record setup, adjustments, and processing data for personal use and for future reference by others.
  • Visually inspect test specimens and work pieces for proper coverage and quality, addressing any discrepancies with the team lead or QA.
  • Install bushings and fittings into housings using manual and pneumatic tools, ensuring proper techniques are followed.
  • Apply surface finishes, such as alodine and primer, according to Boeing specifications to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Prepare surfaces for bonding and grounding as required per specifications.
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials, such as paints and solvents, in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Maintain personal and tool certifications to ensure compliance with industry standards and safety protocols.
  • Present completed jobs or in-process checks to inspectors at appropriate steps in the sequence, ensuring all quality control measures are met.
Physical Demands and Potential Hazards
  • Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.
  • Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.
  • Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.
  • Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.
  • Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.
  • Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
