Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position within a hospital float pool, requiring 2 years of PCU experience and ACLS/BLS/NIHSS certifications.

Details
  • Hospital-based Nursing Float Pool position, primarily supporting ED Holding, with additional coverage across GSH 1 Dally, 2 River North and South units
  • 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week
  • Primary assignment will be the ED Holding unit, which houses patients with mixed diagnoses awaiting inpatient beds
  • PCU patient population includes respiratory compromise, sepsis, renal failure, bleeding disorders, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, and general medical/surgical/ortho cases
  • Patient ratios: PCU 1:4 depending on acuity; if floated to Med-Surg, ratio becomes 1:5; in ED Holding, PCU nurses carry a 1:4 assignment
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing system
  • Float pool role requires flexibility to float within scope of practice to various units for partial shifts
  • Techs available at a 1:10 ratio on PCU units, with RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist coverage available 24/7
  • Must call staffing office 30-45 minutes prior to each shift to receive unit assignment
  • Must arrive on time to assigned unit by 0700 or 1900 and cannot clock in before designated times
  • Weekend requirements vary based on unit needs
  • No on-call or self-scheduling requirements
Requirements
  • Active WA state or compact RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent PCU experience required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tube management, lumbar drain care, tracheostomy care
  • Required IV medication titration experience including Amiodarone, Cardizem, nitroglycerin, dopamine, dobutamine, non-DKA insulin, and heparin
  • Strong communication and patient teaching/education skills required
  • Telemetry competency assessment required upon orientation
Additional Information
  • Primary responsibilities include patient care within ED Holding and support to PCU, Med-Surg, and float pool teams as needed
  • Orientation includes 2 days of hospital orientation covering login access and required modules, plus 1 day on assigned unit
  • Schedules are provided 3 weeks at a time and typically received about 10 days prior to the start of the schedule
  • Time off requests are approved for up to 5 days; additional days require manager approval
  • Any requested time off must be added to the end of the assignment
  • First-time travelers will be considered for this position
