Description

As an integral member of a small team, the Financial Controller directs daily accounting operations and produces financial deliverables while ensuring high standards of accuracy, compliance, and timeliness. The ideal candidate is hands-on, embraces challenges, and works well in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

This job is a civilian position and does not require military service (including commission and enlistment).

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning
:
Partner with the CFO to develop long‑term financial models, annual budgets, and forecasting.
Financial Reporting
:
Oversee day‑to‑day accounting, perform month‑end close, and deliver financial reports.
Audit, Compliance & Insurance
:
Assist in preparation for annual audits, the filing of IRS Form 990, monitor risk and insurances.
Restricted Funds
:
Track, manage, and report on restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring deliverables meet donor requirements.
Team Leadership
:
Act as a translator of financial concepts to non‑financial staff, providing guidance and managing projects to meet team deadlines.

Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
7 to 10 years of progressive financial experience, nonprofit fund experience a plus
Advanced proficiency in Excel and Sage Intacct, prior use of CRM databases
Exceptional communication, analytical, and problem‑solving skills with a deep commitment to our organization’s mission

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises and provides guidance to assigned staff.
