Counselor for Substance Abuse Counseling Center
Incumbent serves as a Counselor for the Substance Abuse Counseling Center (SACC), Marine and Family Programs, Marine Corps Community Services. Provides counseling and education services for clients in a full range of substance use disorder programs. Performs a variety of professional tasks related to substance use disorder screening and assessment, co-facilitation of psycho educational counseling, community referrals and consultations for active-duty military and their eligible family members.
Receives direct supervision from the Clinical Supervisor and/or Director in managing assigned caseload.
Responsible for providing treatment/counseling/education for clientele, and to coordinate these programs with other SACC personnel and command representatives. This includes, but is not limited to, alcohol and drug education courses, treatment curriculum, and the training of command personnel. Serving as a case manager, he/she is to coordinate and arrange for participation in assigned programs, to include but not limited to, letter writing, phone calls, emails, fax, filling out forms, referrals, charting, and synchronize participation for support/treatment with referral agencies and the command's training and deployment cycle.
The incumbent is also to provide psycho-educational services to SACC clientele through the use of appropriate techniques, which includes developing and teaching information modules in related content areas. Responsible for keeping abreast of growth and change of curriculums to determine when information must be updated. The incumbent must be familiar with substance misuse and addiction issues as they pertain to the health and welfare of individuals, groups and family dynamics.
Coordinates with community referral resources in the delivery of specific treatment programs. As appropriate and under the direction of the Director and/or Clinical Supervisor, obtains additional social and personal information from significant others in the client's lives to ascertain the full scope and impact of the problems presented; similarly, communicates with other social and medical consultation resources for case management purposes.
Make referrals to other social or medical resources, as appropriate. Provides continuing education and support to clients and families.
May work a fluctuating work schedule to complete work assignments outside of the typical work week and work hours (to include evenings and/or weekends as necessary).
