Duties
Help
- You will assemble heavy mobile equipment , install, and repair, i.e., bulldozers, road graders, fuel dispensing trucks, snow removal and fire protection equipment.
- You will interpret instructions, technical manuals, illustrations, specifications, diagrams, schematics, and similar guides to make repairs and modifications
- You will measure instruments and test equipment such as engine analyzers, dynamo meters, exhaust analyzers, vacuum and fuel pump testers, injector testers, ignition timers, tachometers, ammeters, and ohmmeters.
- You will troubleshoot mechanical problems, analyze malfunctions, and determine the extent of repairs necessary.
- You will use and maintain hand and/or power tools and equipment required to do the work of heavy mobile equipment mechanic.

- You will be required to possess and maintain a current Virginia Class B Commercial Drivers License with air brake endorsement certification
- You will be required to possess a current Automotive Service Excellence certification.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: the ability to do the work of the position without normal supervision performing common tasks including troubleshooting, overhauling, and repairing complex systems on heavy mobile equipment-including engines, transmissions, and hydraulics-using specialized diagnostic tools and technical manuals with minimal supervision.
