Position: Overhead Crane Inspector / Service Technician
Technicians with experience in motor controls, industrial maintenance, elevator service, millwright work, or electrical troubleshooting are strongly encouraged to apply.

Technicians from related trades can transition quickly with a structured training program.

About the Role

A leader in high-compliance crane services, trusted by defense and government customers who require safe, reliable, and mission-ready equipment. Each year, 1,000+ cranes are inspected and numerous new hoists and cranes are delivered while ensuring compliance with OSHA, ASME, ANSI, and DoD standards. Customers rely on these services when mission readiness, safety, and compliance cannot be compromised.

Position Summary

The Overhead Crane Technician performs inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs of overhead crane systems to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations. This role requires expertise across mechanical, electrical, and structural components, with accountability for conducting OSHA and NAVFAC P-307 inspections and ensuring adherence to industry standards including OSHA, ASME, ANSI, CMAA, MHIA, and EM-385. The technician independently diagnoses issues, develops repair estimates, documents findings, and mentors assistant technicians, playing a critical role in maintaining operational readiness for defense and industrial applications.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform inspections, load tests, and preventive maintenance on weight-handling equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and structural crane components, including:
    • Mechanical:
      Gears, wheel bearings, wire rope, hook blocks, brakes, driveshafts.
    • Electrical:
      Festoons, pendants, wireless controllers, disconnects, fuses, runway electrification, control components, motors.
    • Structural:
      End stops, structural member deformation, weld inspections, runway structure assessments.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshoot crane system issues.
  • Develop estimates for electrical, mechanical, and structural component-level repairs.
  • Document inspection findings and repairs in compliance with company and industry standards.
  • Perform OSHA and NAVFAC P-307 inspections and ensure compliance with OSHA, ASME, ANSI, CMAA, MHIA, and EM-385 standards.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with company, industry, and government regulations.
  • Maintain accountability for assigned equipment and tools.
  • Continuously develop technical knowledge and obtain required certifications.
  • Assist in training and mentoring Assistant Technicians.
Minimum Qualifications , Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • 5 years of experience as an Overhead Crane Inspector, Service Technician, or related field.
  • Understanding of crane terminology, components, and operation.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing electrical, mechanical, and structural crane components.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA, ASME, ANSI, CMAA, MHIA, and EM-385 standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and structural drawings.
  • Strong computer skills for reporting and documentation.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Department of Defense (DoD) base access.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 130 feet.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of Navy and Marine Corps weight handling equipment programs.
  • Experience with NAVFAC P-307 inspections.
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
  • Level II NDT Inspector certification (magnetic particle and dye penetrant methods) within 6 months if not already held.
  • AWS certified welder.
  • Factory training in crane control systems.
  • Licensed forklift and manlift operator.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift/move 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 130 feet.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and industrial environments.
Travel Requirements:
  • Up to 50% travel (local, regional, or national).
