Role Overview
The Director – Commercial Finance is a senior finance leader responsible for supporting Cannara’s operational and commercial performance through strong financial governance, advanced manufacturing costing, pricing analytics, and financial planning. Reporting to the VP Finance, this role acts as a key business partner to Operations, Sales, and Marketing, ensuring accurate manufacturing accounting, disciplined pricing strategies, and scalable financial processes within a complex and highly regulated cannabis production environment.
This role is based on-site at Cannara’s Ville-Saint-Laurent office.
Key Responsibilities- Lead all financial aspects of manufacturing accounting, including product costing, inventory valuation, and cost of goods sold.
- Oversee standard and actual costing methodologies and ensure accurate accounting for cannabis-specific complexities in compliance with IFRS.
- Support quarterly and annual financial statement reporting related to inventory and production.
- Partner with Operations to analyze production variances, efficiencies, yields, and key cost drivers.
- Lead commercial finance activities related to SKU pricing, margins, and profitability.
- Own the calculation, maintenance, and governance of selling prices.
- Build, maintain, and enhance SKU-level margin and profitability models across the full product portfolio.
- Maintain commercial pricing tools and pricing sheets, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and appropriate internal controls.
- Act as the primary finance partner to Sales and Marketing (XLOS), supporting new product launches, pricing changes, promotions, and commercial performance analysis.
- Provide timely, decision-ready insights to management to support margin optimization and pricing strategy.
- Responsible for annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting
- Deliver performance analysis, variance explanations, and actionable insights to senior management.
- Drive continuous improvement of finance processes through automation, system optimization, and reporting tools.
- Lead, coach, and develop direct reports, as required.
- Support other accounting activities related to periodic reporting and compliance.
- Participate in ad hoc projects, strategic initiatives, and internal control improvement projects.
- Bilingualism (French and English);
English communication is required to communicate with colleagues and clients outside Quebec - CPA designation.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting.
- Strong experience in manufacturing accounting and cost accounting (required).
- Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Experience with ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics preferred) and financial reporting tools.
- Advanced Excel skills; knowledge of Power BI or similar analytics tools is an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to translate complex financial information into clear, actionable business insights.
- Strategic mindset combined with a hands‑on, execution‑oriented approach.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.
- High level of professional judgment, integrity, and accountability.
