Para educator I – Special Ed 26/27 SY – Cortina Elementary, Queen Creek, Arizona ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support HUSD Vision, Mission and Goals.
- Instruct, within close proximity to the teacher, individual students or small groups of students to reinforce material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, lunch periods and field trips.
- Alert the teacher to any problem or special information about a student.
- Implement, under direction, behavioral plans developed by a team consisting of parent and school personnel for the purpose of assisting students in modifying behaviors that are in conflict with a positive academic and social environment.
- Work with special needs students across all instructional settings, including the special education classrooms, general education classrooms, recess and lunch.
- Restrain students to prevent injury to self or others utilizing CPI strategies, training provided when required.
- Assist students requiring support in addressing personal care/activities of daily living such as feeding, toileting, diapering, positioning/transferring, and safety monitoring, all with appropriate training.
- Assist students with various physical, emotional and educational needs adhering to guidelines of the student I.E.P with appropriate documentation for activities of daily living for reimbursement of services for Medicaid in the Public Schools.
- Participate in meetings and in-service training as required for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving knowledge and skills beneficial to assisting in the classroom.
- Safeguard and maintain the confidentiality of student information even after employment concludes.
- Perform all duties in a safe and prudent manner as directed by supervisors, including related duties as assigned.
- High school Diploma.
- Current CPR and First Aid cards required (no online classes).
- Capable of working with children one‑on‑one and in groups.
- Displays the ability to work with a variety of students with disabilities including emotional, autistic, mildly mentally disabled and non‑verbal students.
- Ability to relate to students and teachers positively and build trustful relationships.
- Skills and ability to perform the functions of the job, including instruction, computer use, basic academic matters, problem solving and managing work assignments.
- Ability to pass background and reference checks as stipulated by District standards.
- Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

- Frequent communication with students and staff including the exchange of accurate information.
- Frequent interaction with students requiring bending at the waist, back, knees, sitting on the floor, and returning to an upright position.
- Moving about on foot and remaining on one's feet in an upright position while supervising students.
- Raising or lowering an object from one level ranging from 25‑50 lbs.
- Exerting force on an object so that it moves away from or towards the force.
- Ascending and descending a small ladder with agility.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENTFull‑Time Position – 10 months, Monday through Friday, 32.5 hours per week.
SALARY CLASSIFICATIONAppropriate salary placement on the Classified Hourly Salary Schedule.
EVALUATIONPerformance of this job will be evaluated by the Site Administrator and according to District Policy.
