Regular POSITION DETAILS Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York (CUNY). LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree programs and more than fifty workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 24,000 students. More than one-third of LaGuardia’s degree-seeking students are born outside the United States;

they come from 136 countries and speak 43 heritage languages. Sixty percent are first-generation college students. Virtually all LaGuardia students are ethnic minorities (89 percent), 58 percent are women, 27 percent are over the age of 25. Forty-six percent of associate degree students are Hispanic. Upon graduation most students transfer to four-year colleges, typically in CUNY, to complete their baccalaureate degrees.

Graduates of career programs such as Nursing, Computer Technology, and Veterinary Technology enter the workforce. Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) helps motivated community college students earn degrees as quickly as possible, with a goal of graduating at least 50% of students within three years.

Key ASAP program features include a consolidated block schedule, cohorts by major, required full-time study, mandatory tutoring, and comprehensive advisement and career development services. Financial incentives include tuition waivers for financial aid-eligible students and free use of textbooks and monthly Transportation support for all students. Further information is available y.edu/ASAP About ASAP Labor & Employment Law Reporting to the ASAP Director, the ASAP Associate Director supervises and monitors the day-to-day work of the academic advisors, with regard to providing timely, effective academic guidance for all students to ensure degree completion, as well as student engagement that aligns with their program’s advisement rubric.

The associate director is responsible to monitor and analyze individual advisor and complete program engagement data consistently to ensure advisors successfully meet program engagement benchmarks. The ASAP associate director (advisement) assesses needs and gaps and develops strategy for effective advisement programming and other retention-related activities, in collaboration with other designated program staff, and assists the ASAP Director in key program administrative areas.

The associate director will also provide a framework of support, guidance and professional development for their advisees. The Associate Director will participate in all appropriate CUNY ASAP|ACE Central Office working groups as needed. The Associate Director of Advisement will perform duties including but not limited to the following:
Supervises ASAP advisors in the delivery of comprehensive advisement and support services to promote student engagement, persistence, and academic success. Oversees the timely and accurate entry of student enrollment, advisement contacts, and program participation data in the ASAP database and other designated systems. Reviews and assesses advisor reports and student data regularly to monitor progress toward ASAP success benchmarks, identify trends, and determine areas requiring additional student support or intervention.

Oversees ongoing training, coaching, support, and professional development for ASAP advisement staff to strengthen advising practices and promote consistent, high-quality student service.
