SUNY Adirondack is a teaching- and learning-centered community college, which fosters a diverse and equitable learning environment for students of all ages, backgrounds, goals, and learning styles. A member of the State University of New York, located in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, one hour north of Albany and thirty minutes from Saratoga Springs. Our size is intimate, yet we offer more than 30 unique academic programs that prepare students for both work and transfer to four-year schools.

A four-year degree is attainable on campus through our SUNY Plattsburgh extension center. While many of our students are first-generation college-educated and from rural areas in Upstate New York, we are excited by the influx of students from downstate and out of state who can now live in our new 400-bed residence hall.

From interactive classroom instruction to one-on-one guidance outside of class, our faculty and staff are committed to both personal and public transformation through education, with an emphasis on critical and creative thinking. SUNY Adirondack invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor of Philosophy to teach in-person courses in support of the College's Liberal Arts and General Education curriculum. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student-centered teaching and the community college mission, serving a diverse student population including traditional-aged students, adult learners, first-generation college students, and career program students.

* Provide in-person instruction in assigned Philosophy courses

* Develop and deliver course materials aligned with course outlines, program outcomes, and SUNY General Education competencies

* Create an inclusive, engaging learning environment that supports student success and retention

* Evaluate student learning through appropriate and timely assessment and feedback

* Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and course records using the College's Learning Management System (Brightspace or successor platform)

* Communicate regularly with students and respond to inquiries in a timely manner

* Adhere to all College policies, academic standards, and accreditation requirements

* Participate in departmental meetings and professional development activities as appropriate for adjunct faculty

This position requires on-campus instruction and daytime availability Monday through Thursday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Course Assignments May Include:

* Introduction to Philosophy

* Ethics

* Business Ethics

Courses may support multiple academic programs including Liberal Arts, Business, Health Sciences, and Career and Technical Education pathways.

* Prior teaching experience, particularly at the community college level

* Experience teaching Ethics and/or Business Ethics

* Demonstrated success teaching diverse student populations

* Experience using instructional technology and learning management systems

* Experience integrating applied, real-world, or interdisciplinary approaches into philosophy instruction

* Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

* Ability to connect philosophical concepts to contemporary ethical, civic, and professional contexts

* Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student access

* Ability to use technology to support teaching and student engagement

* Master's degree in Philosophy , PhD preferred.

Salary

Adjuncts' salary is based on the number of credit hours per semester, remunerated at the rate of $1,230 per credit hour.
