Responsibilities
- Interview, classify, and reclassify newly committed inmates; complete facility relocations and maintain classification files with updates from courts and institutional activities.
- Research criminal histories to determine proper housing classification within prescribed guidelines and assess an inmate's suitability for trusty status.
- Perform NCIC/FCIC and criminal‑history research verifications as required.
- Maintain computer‑tracking databases for trustees and pre‑trial intervention services; interview inmates prior to initial court appearances to provide information regarding the process.
- Accompany inmates to initial appearances in court and attend pre‑court conferences in Judge’s chambers.
- Review court dockets for accuracy; prepare necessary paperwork for inmates diverted to the pre‑trial release program; inform inmates of program requirements; prepare case files for each inmate.
- Coordinate and schedule various public‑works programs and activities utilizing inmates; prepare statistical reports, tables, and charts related to inmate work programs.
- Answer telephone inquiries regarding various Sheriff’s Office inmate programs.
- Perform all other duties as assigned or required.
- High school diploma or G.E.D., and a valid Florida driver’s license.
- U.S. citizen, at least 21 years of age, and not convicted of any crime listed in statute 435.02.
- Experience in corrections, criminal justice, or a related field.
- Must pass a level 2 background check per statute 435.02.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer skills.
- Ability to work independently, make decisions based on factual data, and communicate ideas clearly in writing and orally.
- Full‑time position.
- Must work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts.
- Regular and prompt attendance is mandatory.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 21 years of age.
Knowledge of criminal justice programming.
Ability to work independently, make data‑based decisions, and communicate ideas clearly in writing and verbally. Skill in the use of computers and Microsoft Office.
