This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure track, bargaining unit position reporting to the Chair of Communications, Languages, and Literature and is located on the JWCC campus in Quincy, Illinois. Position begins Fall semester 2026.
Job DescriptionJohn Wood Community College is seeking a passionate and dynamic Instructor of Communications to join our faculty. This full‑time, tenure‑track position is responsible for teaching a range of communications courses at the college's partner high schools (dual‑credit), Quincy Campus, and outlying centers as assigned. Requires a willingness to be involved in activities including professional development, committee membership, curriculum review, academic assessment, and participation in systematic planning for program evaluation.
Key Responsibilities- Teach a variety of communication courses at partner high schools, the main campus, and extended locations as assigned.
- Deliver dual‑credit coursework in accordance with college policies, curriculum standards, and assessment practices.
- Ensure consistency of academic rigor, learning outcomes, and grading standards across all instructional locations.
- Develop, revise, and assess curriculum to align with institutional learning outcomes and transfer standards.
- Maintain accurate course records, engagement, grades, and student communication in accordance with institutional guidelines.
- Serve as a liaison between the college and partner high schools.
- Participate in dual‑credit programming.
- Support alignment of syllabi, assessments, and instructional practices across sections and locations.
- Provide timely feedback on student work and advise and mentor students as needed.
- Participate in department meetings, curriculum development, assessment initiatives, and accreditation processes.
- Engage in committee service and campus activities.
- Contribute to program recruitment, outreach, and retention initiatives.
Education and Experience
- Master's degree in Communications or a closely related field plus eighteen graduate hours in Communications.
- Demonstrated teaching effectiveness.
- Proficiency in using instructional technology and online learning platforms.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team‑oriented academic environment.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to student success.
- Experience in an educational or public sector setting is a plus.
- Ability and willingness to teach at partner high schools, the Quincy Campus, or outlying centers.
- A typical work schedule for a full‑time faculty member at John Wood Community College includes a combination of teaching, office hours, and service to the college. Specific schedules may vary by department and course load.
- The position may require additional duties outside normal work hours and contracted workdays including travel to and from educational facilities.
- Maintain regular office hours (in person or virtual as appropriate).
- This is an exempt position with an estimated base salary range of $42,563 - $99,844 per year. Salary is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and is commensurate with education and experience.

In certain cases, faculty may be eligible for stipends to compensate for extra work that aligns with institutional priorities and needs.
