Job Description:R&D Engineer – Electrical Lab / Electromechanical (Blowers & Vacuum Pumps)
Location: Quincy, IL
Job OverviewThis role is primarily a hands‑on R&D laboratory and test engineering position supporting blower and vacuum pump product development. The engineer will focus on building, instrumenting, testing, and troubleshooting electromechanical systems, while also supporting electrical design activities as experience and business needs evolve. This is a dual‑path role: the primary focus is on lab‑based R&D and testing, with opportunities to grow into electrical design ownership over time.
ResponsibilitiesLab & Test Engineering (Primary Focus)
- Build, instrument, and operate blower and vacuum pump test setups.
- Support validation testing including performance, thermal, durability, and reliability testing.
- Configure sensors, wiring, and data acquisition systems to capture accurate test data.
- Troubleshoot electrical and electromechanical issues in lab and prototype environments.
- Support teardown, inspection, and failure analysis activities.
Electrical & Electromechanical Support
- Assist in development of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and BOMs.
- Support integration of motors, sensors, heaters, and protection devices into equipment.
- Work with senior engineers on electrical design improvements and component selection.
- Participate in design reviews and provide feedback based on lab/test findings.
R&D & Product Development
- Support prototype builds and iterative development cycles.
- Assist in evaluating new technologies for blower and vacuum systems.
- Translate lab findings into practical design improvements.
Manufacturing & Field Support
- Assist manufacturing teams with electrical build issues and troubleshooting.
- Support field issue root‑cause analysis when required.
Documentation
- Maintain test records, reports, and engineering documentation.
- Communicate findings clearly to engineering teams.
Travel & Work Arrangements
On‑site, with less than 10% travel.
Requirements- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or related field.
- 2–7 years of hands‑on experience in lab, testing, service, or manufacturing environments.
- Strong hands‑on electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with industrial electrical components (motors, sensors, relays, wiring).
- Ability to work with test equipment and data acquisition systems.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to work on rotating equipment.
- Strong problem‑solving and communication skills.
- Experience in a lab environment, panel shop, service technician role, or manufacturing support.
- Exposure to blower, compressor, pump, or rotating equipment systems.
- Familiarity with electrical schematics and basic design tools.
- Experience with UL/CE or industrial electrical standards.
$74,000–$96,000 depending on experience.
