The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs seeks to hire a Maintenance Equipment Operator. Under direct supervision, this position performs a variety of tasks related to the maintenance, repair and operation of automative and related equipment. Operates automotive and related equipment in the transportation of materials and supplies. Transports members by bus for recreation and tours.

• Under direct supervision of the Chief Stationary Engineer, performs a variety of semi-skilled manual tasks involving the operation and repair of automotive and related maintenance equipment in the area of transportation of materials, food, and supplies to various areas of the facility and any other destination.
• Performs maintenance of equipment to keep in operational order such as brake repairs, electronic ignitions,heating and air conditioning systems, exhaust system, tune up procedures, timing procedures, etc. and oil changes for the various facility vehicles.
• Monitors and schedules operating repairs of any electrical equipment or machinery requiring attention.
• Transports residents by bus too various locations for recreation and sightseeing tours.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
