The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for all golf course maintenance, clubhouse grounds, maintenance and landscaping, and oversees administration, personnel supervision, equipment repairs, purchasing, pest management, budgeting, special projects, and operation of special golf course equipment and irrigation systems.
HoursMonday–Friday: 6:00 am–2:30 pm, Saturday: 6:00 am–9:00 am. Additional hours may be required.

- Vacation: 1st year 10 days; years 2–4 10 days; 5th year earn an extra day each year (max 25 days)

Reports to:
Director of Golf & Assistant Director of Golf
Supervises staff: full time, part time, seasonal
- Maintain the 27‑hole golf course, including tees, fairways, greens, cart paths.
- Manage turf culture, mowing practices, chemical application, and water management.
- Maintain accurate records: payroll, inventory, weather data, maintenance programs, turf/green applications.
- Care for maintenance garage and vehicles/other assets.
- Inspect grounds daily to meet district standards.
- Assist with construction/renovation projects.
- Plan maintenance and project work applying agronomic and administrative expertise.
- Maintain chemical/fertilizer licensing records.
- Create and implement tree maintenance and replacement programs.
- Provide preventative maintenance for mowers, golf carts, and other equipment.
- Acquire equipment and purchase supplies.
- Oversee operation of automatic irrigation systems; perform maintenance and repairs.
- Supervise sanding and maintenance of all sand traps.
- Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets for chemicals.
- Maintain traffic flow and aesthetic pathways.
- Coordinate with Director of Golf Operations for course closures and event scheduling.
- Participate in professional committees, conferences, workshops, and classes.
- Plan and implement pin placements, cup cutting, and tee marker locations.
- Maintain adequate inventory.
- Procure up‑to‑date equipment to maximize efficiency.
- Wear personal protective equipment when needed.
- Communicate with Pro Shop staff regarding course conditions.
- Supervise planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring of natural areas.
- Plan chemical application programs and operate application equipment.
- Perform snow removal duties.
- Multi‑task and work calmly under pressure.
- Perform any other Park District duty as required.
- Help develop long‑range planning, goals, and program forecasting.
- Assist with annual golf course budget development; maintain fiscal controls.
- Recommend capital improvement projects; assist with bid preparation.
- Supervise daily operations of the Golf Course Grounds Department.
- Set department goals and evaluate staff annually.
- Issue disciplinary action and corrective plans when necessary.
- Manage hiring, training, supervision, discipline, motivation, and evaluation.
- Manage payroll and employee records in partnership with Human Resources; enforce HR policies.
- Oversee and approve bi‑weekly payroll of maintenance staff.
- Submit approved salary changes and additional pay rates.
- Provide monthly report to the Director of Golf.
- Provide additional information as requested by board or executive director.
- Act in the best interests of the Course and District.
- Frequently move items weighing 50–75 lbs.
- Maintain safety awareness and follow all guidelines.
- Ensure equipment and facilities are kept clean, safe, and efficient; train staff on safe operation.
- Prepare and maintain all recordkeeping for course operations.
Bachelor of Science in turf management or related field required. Minimum of three years as a Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or similar.…
