American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an ICU position at a Level II Trauma Center in Illinois, requiring CRRT and sheath-pulling experience and a 12-hour night shift schedule.
Requirements- Active Illinois (IL) RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; PALS preferred
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Experience in a Level I or Level II Trauma Center required
- Prior experience in a hospital with 300+ beds required
- CRRT experience highly preferred
- Sheath-pulling experience preferred
- BSN not required
- ICU (2nd floor) in an acute care hospital setting with 300+ beds
- Mixed MICU/SICU unit with 16 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2
- Patient population includes traumas (MVA, drownings, tractor rollovers, fractures, spinal injuries), sepsis, DKA, post-surgical recovery, COVID, neuro surgery, ECMO, 24‑hour EEG monitoring, EVD/LP drain management, organ procurement, and more
- Common procedures include CRRT (Prismaflex), rotaprone, TTM (Arctic Sun), mass transfusions, train‑of‑4 monitoring, frequent paralytic use, tracheostomies, bronchoscopies, arterial line insertion, CT insertion, and post‑heart cath sheath pulls
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Precedex, pressors, anti‑arrhythmics, sedation, and other common ICU drips
- Telemetry monitored by a dedicated monitor tech; RNs are required to independently interpret cardiac strips (Draeger monitors)
- 12‑hour night shifts, 3 shifts per week, starting at 7 pm
- Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
- On‑call requirement: none
- Floating may occur to PCU/CVICU, typically as help‑all rather than taking a full patient assignment
- Charting system:
Allscripts - 24/7 intensivist and hospitalist (MD and NP) coverage in‑house
- Respiratory therapy assigned 24/7 to the ICU/PCU with all respiratory equipment available
- Orientation consists of one 12‑hour shift on the hired shift and unit; the first day is 12‑14 hours to complete competencies, computer‑based modules, and general orientation
- Charge nurse on days is typically facility staff; nights may be covered by the house supervisor — both take a reduced assignment to provide unit support
- Nurse aides are available on the unit
- Scheduling is posted 6 weeks in advance; block scheduling is not guaranteed
- Holiday rotation shared with core staff
- Required scrub color: black
