Description:
This position is for a Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit. The unit is a fast-paced environment with heavy patients. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-6 for nights and 1:5-6 for days. There are LPNs available and assists from virtual admission and discharge nurses. Primary care nursing models are frequently used, and nurses should be comfortable with this. Nurses will be responsible for monitoring patient vitals and interpreting telemetry strips.
Tele monitor technicians will assist with monitoring. Charge nurses may take a smaller patient assignment to support staff. There are nurse aides available on this unit. The unit handles a variety of surgical patients, including neuro and joint replacement cases. It is essential to have experience with the utilization of PCA and managing dialysis patients. Shifts are three 12-hour shifts starting at 7 AM.
Weekend shifts are required every other weekend. Nurses will be part of a holiday rotation with core staff. There is no call or standby requirement for this role. Nurses may need to float to like units only, with no patient load if floated to higher acuity settings. This role involves significant patient admissions and discharges daily. The charting system used is EPIC.
The position is within an acute care setting with a Trauma Level 2 designation. Strong candidates will be knowledgeable about surgical and telemetry nursing practices.
