Registered Nurse I

The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking to hire a Registered Nurse I at the Quincy Veterans' Home. This position provides professional nursing care to residents in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures. The Registered Nurse I is responsible for assessing resident needs, administering treatments and medications, maintaining accurate medical records, coordinating care plans, and promoting a safe and supportive environment for residents.

This position also serves as a clinical resource to nursing staff and contributes to the delivery of high-quality healthcare services.

Essential Functions:

• Under general supervision of the Nursing Supervisor, and in conformance with established standards, procedures, and policy, provides a full range of professional nursing services in the care and treatment of residents.
• Prepares and maintains medical records and histories such as recording physicians orders, charting medications, recording resident conditions and behaviors.
• Provides guidance, instruction and explanation of patient care and treatment and the use of equipment to non-professional nursing staff.
• Makes regular rounds of residents in relation to nursing duties and physician rounds.
• Sets up, operates, and monitors special equipment, such as aspiration equipment and suction equipment.
• Orders and maintains medications and other medical equipment and supplies.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Requires graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing or a bachelor's degree in nursing.
• Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.

Conditions of Employment:

• Requires ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and pre-employment physical.
• Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
• Requires ability to acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
• Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
• Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
• Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
