The Driver/Service Tech is a hybrid field role responsible for both the safe, efficient delivery of propane and the installation, maintenance, and repair of propane tanks, systems, and appliances for residential and commercial customers. This role combines the core duties of a Bulk Driver and a Service Technician into a single position, delivering propane via bobtail truck while also setting, repairing, and maintaining tanks and cylinders, troubleshooting propane systems, and performing leak tests and gas checks at customer sites.
The Driver/Service Tech is often the face of Pinnacle Propane to customers and is expected to maintain a professional image, provide superior customer service, and fully comply with DOT, HSSE, and propane safety regulations. The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, mechanically capable, comfortable working independently in the field, and willing to work a flexible schedule that may include after-hours and emergency call-outs.
For example, this position may be 50% driver and 50% Service Tech.
- Install, set, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and remove propane tanks, cylinders, regulators, piping, and related propane equipment.
- Install underground and above ground propane service lines for residential, commercial, agricultural, and industrial customers in accordance with NFPA 54, NFPA 58, DOT, and state and local regulations.
- Perform gas leak tests, pressure tests, gas system checks, and safety inspections before placing propane systems into service.
- Diagnose and repair propane appliances and equipment, including water heaters, furnaces, fireplaces, cooktops, dryers, generators, pool heaters, and other propane-fueled equipment.
- Install, replace, adjust, and convert propane appliances and regulators as required.
- Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled inspections on customer propane systems.
- Ensure all installations and repairs meet company quality standards and applicable federal, state, and local codes.
- Respond to emergency service calls involving gas leaks, no-gas conditions, equipment failures, and other customer emergencies while following established safety procedures.
- Safely operate vehicles, cranes, compressors, trenching equipment, power tools, and other equipment required to perform service work.
- Complete required vehicle inspections, including daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and report mechanical issues promptly.
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, testing equipment, and inventory in a clean, organized, and serviceable condition.
- Safely load and deliver propane via bobtail truck to residential and commercial locations, meeting delivery window time frames and dependability expectations.
- Fill empty customer tanks of all sizes by pulling the hose from the truck to the tank location (Customer tanks may be located indoors or outdoors)
- Perform all truck maintenance daily, verify all safety supplies are on the truck, keep inside and outside of the truck clean and orderly, and notify managers of any issues that need to be fixed.
- Verify customer tank levels, capacity, and system integrity before and after delivery, ensuring accurate fills and preventing overfill situations
- Operate metering and ticketing systems to accurately record delivered gallons and capture customer signatures or confirmations when required
- Identify and respond to propane leaks, system irregularities, or safety hazards
