Position Summary
A Relief Driver- CDL (B) is responsible for safely operating a collection truck and providing prompt, courteous, and complete waste removal services for customers. The role requires ensuring the vehicle complies with the Company’s safety standards prior to operation, adherence to all Company, state, and federal regulations while driving, and completing vehicle condition reports (VCRs) daily to ensure timely repairs of any vehicle defects.
Responsibilities- Perform complete pre- and post-operation inspections of the vehicle to verify tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges, and controls are in proper working order; report safety issues on standard reports.
- Safely operate the heavy truck along the designated route to the disposal site; read the route sheet, follow maps, and service each customer as identified or as assigned by the dispatcher or supervisor.
- Operate manual and/or automatic controls to lift and load refuse, operate the compactor, and dispose of material at the designated facility in accordance with safety policies.
- Courtely interact with customers, dispatchers, and others to ensure routes are serviced timely and professionally.
- Identify unsatisfactory waste containers and tag containers per applicable procedures.
- Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable materials.
- Clean areas around accidental waste spills in accordance with safety standards and policies.
- Monitor vehicle condition to stay operationally ready; clean waste from the packer blade and truck body as appropriate on disposal trips.
- Complete required route/productivity sheets, VCRs, and other reports as required.
- Maintain adherence to required productivity standards to service customers in a timely and efficient manner.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures; actively participate in the Company’s ReSOP program.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Good customer service skills to meet and exceed expectations; professional, courteous, and cooperative with customers and co-workers; honest and trustworthy.
- Good time management to complete responsibilities efficiently and safely.
- Strong follow-through; adheres to schedules and addresses challenges as they arise.
- Ability to follow Company policies and rules; promotes safety and avoids unnecessary risk.
- Pride in work; strives to achieve goals.
- Two years of prior experience driving commercial trucks preferred.
- Class B or higher Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes endorsement.
- Shift: Monday - Friday;
Start time 4am; occasional Saturdays. - Paid weekly on Friday.
- Must be willing to cover other locations when necessary; may be out of state with a travel stipend.
The pay range for this position is $22.85 to $31.40 per hour, reflecting the minimum wage in multiple jurisdictions. The actual range depends on locality.
