The Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of assigned projects, ensuring accurate budgeting, cost tracking, billing, and financial reporting. This role partners closely with project managers to monitor project performance, maintain financial controls, and support timely and accurate decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and maintain project budgets, cost codes, and financial structures
  • Track project costs, revenues, and margins against budgets and forecasts
  • Prepare and submit client invoices in accordance with contract terms
  • Monitor work-in-progress (WIP), accruals, and revenue recognition
  • Analyze project financial performance and identify cost variances
  • Prepare monthly project financial reports and forecasts
  • Support project managers with financial insights and cost control strategies
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and contract requirements
  • Assist with project audits and internal/external reporting requests
  • Coordinate with accounts payable and receivable on project-related transactions
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and financial records
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 2–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in project-based environments (e.g., construction, engineering, consulting, IT, or professional services)
  • Strong understanding of project accounting principles and revenue recognition
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Net Suite, or similar)
  • Advanced Excel skills

Preferred Qualifications (Optional)
  • CPA, CMA, or progress toward certification
  • Experience with percentage-of-completion accounting
  • Industry-specific experience (construction, government contracts, etc.)

Compensation: $80,000 to $100,000 annually

Compensation is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications
