The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of a manufacturing environment through accurate cost accounting, inventory management, and financial analysis. This role oversees standard costing, inventory valuation, manufacturing cost reporting, and month-end close activities while ensuring compliance with internal controls and SOX requirements. Working closely with operations, supply chain, and finance teams, the Senior Cost Accountant provides meaningful analysis to support business decisions, improve profitability, and drive operational efficiencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze standard costs for materials, labor, overhead, and manufacturing processes.
  • Manage inventory accounting, including inventory valuation, reconciliations, cycle counts, physical inventories, and inventory reserves.
  • Support the monthly close process by preparing journal entries, reconciling inventory accounts, analyzing work-in-process (WIP), and reviewing manufacturing variances.
  • Monitor and analyze production costs, gross margins, and operational performance, providing recommendations for cost improvements.
  • Prepare financial reports and ad hoc analyses for management to support strategic decision‑making.
  • Maintain compliance with SOX requirements and internal controls related to inventory, costing, and manufacturing transactions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of cost accounting experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of standard costing, inventory accounting, manufacturing variances, WIP, and financial close processes.
  • Experience with ERP systems; SAP experience is preferred.
  • Understanding of SOX compliance and internal control requirements.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
