EHS / HSE Manager
The Field Safety and Risk Manager is responsible for providing overall safety and risk management support to various construction projects throughout New England. The ideal candidate has 2-7 years of experience regarding construction safety, thorough understanding of OSHA and State level regulations, interpreting them, and successfully implementing them on their defined projects. In addition, successful candidate will have construction related experience.
Conducting daily safety and risk management inspections of field projects are the primary responsibility of the position to ensure compliance with Company and regulatory requirements. S/He must be able to interact with tradesmen through all levels of management effectively. The Field Safety and Risk Manager should have strong communication skills, allowing them to handle crucial conversations effectively. Bi-lingual is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Ability to proactively identify risk and define mitigation strategies in a team environment
- Participate in pre-construction safety meetings on all projects, lead the safety portion of the meeting
- Understanding the construction process; wood frame safety experience is a plus
- Develop and implement Risk Mitigation plans, including but not limited to: site-specific safety program(s), water control plans, Activity Hazard Analysis, and Fire Prevention Plans with the project team
- Provide Risk Management expertise to the project team
- Participate in weekly project team safety meetings
- Provide training as necessary and required for all safety-related needs
- Work with consultants, insurance loss control representatives, and other agencies to ensure projects are meeting their requirements
- Understand builder’s risk requirements and represent the Company on all insurance inspections
- Work with the Project Superintendents to identify key activities that require AHAs utilizing their experience as well as the three-week look-ahead schedules
- Partner with subcontractors to ensure they are performing their work in a safe manner. Help subcontractors understand their safety-related deficiencies
- Understand the project specifics to better support the teams
- Be able to assess situations and work tasks to proactively assist with identifying the most appropriate course of action
- Develop Safety Shares that will provide value to the company as well as to specific projects as needed
- Strong knowledge in Risk Management Practices and claims management
- Conduct incident investigations
- Understand insurance principles
- Be able to manage their time to prioritize responsibilities
- Work independently with little oversight
- Be punctual for job obligations
- Write safety inspection reports and weekly summary reports for management
- The Safety and Risk Manager should possess the OSHA 500 Trainer Authorization to perform both 10 and 30hr training sessions. Provide periodic safety training in the field based on project needs
- Conduct project-specific training to ensure our Team Members understand their exposures and safety-related responsibilities
- Stay current with the construction safety industry by participating in industry-related groups, seminars, etc.
The Field Safety and Risk Manager reports to the Director of Safety and Risk Management. He/She also supports all other Business Units.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Safety or related construction management field. Construction work experience would also be considered and beneficial
- 2 - 7 years of safety or field related experience
- Maintain the OSHA 500 Trainer Authorization or ability to obtain as soon as eligible
- Ability to travel throughout New England
- Have a reliable vehicle
- Maintain a valid driver’s license
- Support night and weekend work as needed
- Physically able to maneuver throughout a construction site, lift up to 50 lbs., use ladders/stairs in multi-story buildings, possibly wear a respirator, and other PPE as necessary
