Corporate Vice President of Safety

A well established and growing heavy civil contractor is seeking a VP of Safety to lead and advance its safety function across a significant multi state operation throughout New England.

This is a senior leadership position with direct influence over company wide safety strategy, field operations, risk management, compliance, training and safety culture. The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Vice President.

• Lead and mentor a team of 30+ safety professionals across multiple states and active projects
• Develop and execute the company wide safety strategy, policies, standards and initiatives
• Partner directly with operations leadership, project executives, project managers and superintendents to integrate safety throughout construction operations
• Drive a proactive culture of accountability, ownership and continuous improvement
• Maintain compliance with OSHA and applicable state and local regulations across New England
• Oversee incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective action programs
• Monitor and report key safety metrics including TRIR, DART, EMR and severity rates
• Lead internal compliance reviews, third party audits and regulatory inspections
• Provide executive oversight of safety performance across active heavy civil projects
• Conduct regular field visits across highway, bridge, marine, utility, excavation and earthwork projects.
• Support pre construction planning through risk assessments, safety planning and hazard mitigation
• Establish safety expectations and performance standards for field leadership
• Oversee company wide safety training, certifications and leadership development
• Ensure employees and subcontractors meet required safety qualifications and training standards
• Lead executive level safety initiatives, communications and safety campaigns
• Provide oversight of subcontractor and vendor safety performance
• Support incident, claims and risk management activities

• 10+ years of progressive safety experience within heavy civil construction
• 6+ years in a senior, regional or corporate safety leadership position
• Proven experience managing safety across multiple projects and states
• Strong understanding of heavy civil operations including highways, bridges, marine, excavation, utilities and complex multi employer environments
• Extensive knowledge of OSHA and New England specific safety requirements
• Demonstrated ability to influence executive leadership while maintaining strong credibility in the field
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering or related discipline preferred
• Strong analytical, leadership and problem solving capabilities
