Job Description:
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The ESOL Instructor is a limited part time position grant-funded through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Continuation of the position is dependent on grant funding and program needs. This position reports to the ABE and ESOL Program Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required bachelor's degree and experience teaching adult bilingual students.
Preferred TABE E, Best Plus certified.
Experience in teaching ESOL courses to adult students.
Ability to engage with diverse students.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a part of the team.
Demonstrated experience in working effectively with low income, underserved adult learners and high school dropout students.
Strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
Demonstrated ability to deal tactfully and effectively with a diverse group of students at all levels.
Ability to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines
Attend mandatory DESE professional development trainings, including 15 hours of new ABE/ESOL instructor training.
Attend professional development workshops. Including online training.

Prior teaching experience in ESOL course subject is required.
Employ a variety of teaching methods to engage all students.
Plan and deliver effective, learner-centered ESOL lessons for Level 5 students aligned with Massachusetts ESOL Curriculum Frameworks and College and Career Readiness Standards.
Integrate contextualized instruction that supports students' goals in academic, career, and community settings.
Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments.
Provide timely feedback and support to students to monitor progress and promote language development.
Maintain accurate attendance, progress records, and required documentation in compliance with DESE grant requirements.
Communicate regularly with program staff regarding student progress and classroom needs.
Participate in professional development activities and required program meetings, including curriculum development work and Canvas an online system
Create a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment that supports diverse learners.
Instructor should be well versed in the ESOL DESE framework, cultural responsiveness, to promote equity and to differentiate for a diverse population of ESOLs including students with disabilities
Demonstrate cultural proficiency and use of effective and culturally and linguistically relevant instructional practices
Collaborate and co-plan with other instructors to provide the highest quality instruction and support for ESOL Learners
Proctor TABE E assessments.
Use all available technology and virtual curricula to create engaging lessons and support for all students.
Contribute to college-wide initiatives and events which may be assigned by the ABE/ESOL Program Coordinator of the VP of the Workforce, Economic and Institutional Development.
Prepare and submit lesson plans on time.
Commitment to working assigned schedule reliably and punctually
Excellent organizational skills and strong communication skills.
Experience working with diverse populations.
Ability to lead and conduct classroom courses and/or workshops
Ability to use technology in the classroom.
Online teaching experience.
Ability to utilize a variety of teaching methods to engage all students
Participate in mandatory training/coursework; including but not limited to:
Title IX and Sexual Misconduct
Sexual Harassment and Non-Discrimination
Security Policy and Notification of Security Reporting
FERPA
Municipal Ethics Law Assignment
Travel for both Quincy and Plymouth Campus as well as other local travel may be required.
