Job Description

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plan, teach, and evaluate assigned courses that align to meet the standard of the Massachusetts Career and Vocational Technical Frameworks and industry standards. Perform general teaching tasks and respond to the needs of high school students and the school organization.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and provide appropriate learning experiences within assigned area of responsibility.
  • Establish and maintain an instructional atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Teach technical skills and knowledge to provide students with competence to become skilled in their field.
  • Develop lesson plans and organize class time so that demonstrations, instruction, hands‑on practice, review, and final activities are accomplished within allotted time.
  • Continuously improve instruction, curriculum, and equipment so that this CTE area stays current with industry trends and prepares students for available and emerging jobs.
  • Incorporate technology into instruction, demonstrations, and applications.
  • Work to expand and diversify the offering of the cluster to provide multiple career pathways.
  • Develop and maintain a range of work‑based experiences (internships, co‑ops, mentorships, etc.) and ensure all students participate.
  • Develop and maintain connections with area colleges, including articulation agreements and dual enrollment.
  • Build positive relationships with carpentry technology community partners in Quincy and actively solicit their assistance, including service on the Program Advisory Board.
  • Select and requisition books, instructional aides, equipment, instruments, materials, and supplies, working within established budgets and procedures.
  • Mentor students to recognize the importance of postsecondary education and training and to foster a strong work ethic.
  • Perform all required duties such as supervision, attendance taking, student/parent conferences, department/staff meetings, etc.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date and accurate records and reports necessary for effective program management.
  • Demonstrate appropriate application of interdisciplinary instruction.
  • Apply a variety of teaching techniques to deliver instruction.
  • Participate in the delivery of related student services.
  • Model values respected in a democratic society.
  • Participate in professional development activities that align with school‑wide educational goals.
  • Update professional skills by attending conferences, meetings, workshops, and other professional development and related career training activities.
  • Join professional organizations; develop goals and activities related to professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certification as a Carpentry Technology (Chapter 74) CTE instructor.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others in a caring, positive, and constructive manner, specifically with students, teachers, school administrators, parents, and volunteers.
  • Maintain impeccable moral standards.
  • Present a neat and clean appearance and personal habits.
  • Dependability in attendance and productivity; consistently produce high‑quality work.
  • Exhibit a positive work ethic.
  • Serve as a role model for students and the general public at large.
  • Demonstrate confidentiality in personnel and student matters.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in handling problems as they arise and know when and whom to assign handling of situations in the absence of an administrator.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team with other staff members.
