Job DescriptionQuincy Public Schools is seeking an experienced school psychologist for the School Year to work as a Team member counseling students on IEP’s, and consulting and collaborating with program staff, teachers, administrators, and parents to support children. The psychologist will also work collaboratively with the school counselor to enhance social-emotional learning, mental health supports and services.
Based on the standards outlined by the National Association of School Psychologists, the successful candidate will have experience and responsibilities as follows:
QUALIFICATIONS- Candidate must hold a Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) license as School Psychologist.
- Consult and collaborate with teachers, parents and administrators to find effective solutions to learning and behavior problems.
- Help others understand child development and how it affects learning and behavior.
- Evaluate eligibility for special services.
- Assess academic skills and aptitude for learning.
- Determine social-emotional development and mental health status.
- Provide psychological counseling to help resolve interpersonal or family problems that interfere with school performance.
- Work directly with children and families to help resolve problems in adjustment and learning.
- Promote tolerance, understanding, and appreciation of diversity within the school community.
- Use evidence based research to develop and recommend effective interventions.
- Knowledge of the organizational structure and elements of a successful school counseling program, in alignment with the MASCA model.
- Understanding of leadership theories and principles, developmental theory, social justice theory, learning theories, multiculturalism and career counseling theories.
- Knowledge of the full continuum of mental health care services, such as prevention and intervention.
- Thorough understanding of barriers to student learning and the use of counseling strategies to eliminate those barriers.
- Knowledge of individual counseling, group counseling and classroom instruction that promote academic achievement.
- Understanding of the legal, professional and ethical issues that affect Massachusetts schools.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate.
- Work to remove barriers to student success.
- Administer cognitive, social-emotional and behavioral assessments.
- Increase equity in access to school counseling services and interventions leading to increased enrollment and completion of rigorous coursework.
- Support and training for teachers in school counseling principles and strategies to address learning and behavioral problems in the classroom.
- Provide programs and services that develop essential attitudes, knowledge and skills for student success and post‑secondary transition.
- Informed career planning and decision making for all students.
- Organize program coordination with staff, parents/caregivers and community resources.
- Data analysis of school counseling variables and outcomes for school improvement planning.
- Partnerships with business and industry to design programs that ensure students’ workplace readiness.
- Master’s degree in School Psychology required.
- MA DESE certification as a School Psychologist required.
- Prior experience working as a School Psychologist preferred.
REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Student Support Services

Salary: $62,804 to $77,414 Per Year
