What

You Will Do

The ESOL Lead Teacher is a member of the BCNC Adult Education and Workforce team. Adult Education prepares adult immigrant learners with the education, training, and guidance that lead them to successful employment and family‑sustaining wages. You will strengthen immigrant adults and teach individuals English and the critical skills they need to thrive in today’s economy. You will report directly to the Director of Adult Education.

In

this role, you will:
Instruction & Planning
  • Plan and teach ESOL classes aligned with Massachusetts Adult Education standards and program curriculum.
  • Develop syllabi, unit plans, and lesson plans that support structured, standards‑based instruction.
  • Integrate workforce readiness skills, digital literacy, and learner‑centered instructional strategies into lessons.
  • Adapt instruction to meet diverse student learning needs and goals.
  • Use Google Classroom to organize and share instructional materials and assignments.
  • Review student feedback and assessment data to refine instruction and improve learning outcomes.
  • Support students in achieving Educational Functioning Level gains aligned with program performance targets.
  • Lead classroom‑based orientation instruction for new student cohorts during designated onboarding periods.
Instructional Leadership & Collaboration
  • Serve as a liaison between ESOL teaching staff and program leadership to share instructional needs, updates, and feedback.
  • Facilitate teacher meetings and support collaboration and sharing of instructional best practices.
  • Mentor and support new teaching staff during onboarding and ongoing instruction.
  • Provide guidance to staff on instructional strategies, classroom management, and curriculum implementation.
  • Coordinate with colleagues on curriculum review and improvement efforts.
  • Recommend and support relevant professional development opportunities for instructional staff.
Instructional Coordination
  • Coordinate instructional materials requests from teaching staff within the classroom materials budget line.
  • Review requests for alignment with allowable categories and available funds.
  • Compile and submit consolidated materials requests to program administration for approval and purchasing.
  • Support consistency in instructional documentation, including lesson plans and attendance records.
  • Provide reminders and follow‑up with teaching staff regarding required submissions and deadlines.
  • Identify areas where staff may need additional instructional support and help coordinate assistance with program leadership.
  • Communicate with program staff regarding coverage needs for planned absences, as needed.
Student Support & Assessment
  • Participate in scheduled intake and placement testing as part of program assessment processes.
  • Reserve designated weekly time during the academic year for intake testing as scheduled (primarily during peak enrollment periods).
  • Collaborate with advisors and program staff on student placement and instructional recommendations as needed.
  • Participate in program‑wide standardized student assessments, including administering assessments during designated testing periods.
  • Obtain and maintain certification in BEST Plus 3.0 and/or TABE CLAS‑E assessments, as assigned by program leadership.
  • Maintain accurate student records in accordance with program and DESE requirements.
  • Track attendance and follow up with absent students per program procedures.
  • Meet with students to review goals and support progress tracking in collaboration with advisors.
  • Document student progress and assessment data to support instructional planning and reporting.
