Pipeline Engineer

Location:

Salt Lake City, UT

Duration: 12 months

Pipeline Engineer is responsible for the design of high-pressure steel natural gas pipelines for the Feeder-Line Replacement program, ensuring all analysis, installation, commissioning, operability, and integrity regulatory requirements and company standards are met or exceeded, including Code of Federal Regulations Part 192.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical and design support for pipeline routing and layout.
  • Determine block and tap valve placement.
  • Design pipeline crossings for rivers, interstates, and highways using open-dig or trenchless construction methods.
  • Ensure compliance with industry codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Perform engineering analyses of pipeline stress, considering internal pressure, external loads, thermal expansion, soil loads, seismic effects, and other factors.
  • Specify pipe materials and coatings, procure materials, prepare and submit engineering documentation (calculations, forms, checklists), track project schedules, and monitor budgets.
  • Develop pressure test procedures and support commissioning activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design drafting, right-of-way agents, cathodic protection engineers, and environmental specialists.
  • Report to a supervisor or manager.
Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in mechanical or civil engineering is required, along with 4–7 years of relevant experience. Candidates should have a foundational understanding of high-pressure steel pipeline materials and construction practices, and strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, communication tools, and engineering analysis software.

Base salary range for this position, dependent upon experience, qualifications, and skills: $50.00 – $65.00 per hour.
