Project Engineer – Responsibilities and Qualifications

As a Project Engineer, you will lead daily coordination with clients, trade partners, engineers, architects, and employees. You are responsible for planning, scheduling, predicting, and managing all technical tasks to ensure accuracy, proper resources, and quality throughout the project's lifecycle.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Project Managers in purchasing activities including scoping and take‑offs.
  • Prepare and forward submittals; confirm submittals comply with plans/specifications.
  • Support the development and updating of the project schedule and subcontractor detail schedules.
  • Play a lead role in the development of project plans.
  • Monitor and expedite material deliveries, ensuring all deliveries conform with the project schedule.
  • Review change proposals from trade partners and negotiate as appropriate.
  • Facilitate with the Project Manager and Superintendent in the coordination of drawings.
  • Draft change orders.
  • Solicit prices from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Perform scope take‑off and estimate costs.
  • Lead close‑out of project, including assembling manuals and other warranties for turnover to owner and preparing final payment documents for subcontractors.
  • Develop and lead training sessions for your team and trade partners.
  • Take ownership of document management applications.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, a related discipline, or relevant work experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in an engineer, project engineer, or a similar role in the construction industry.
  • Experience building mission‑critical/data center projects is a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of scheduling, cost engineering, subcontract coordination, and general project administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to read drawings and specifications.
  • Computer proficient, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace products.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interest and passion for building and the industry.

Preferred Qualifications
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • Procore experience.
  • Primavera P6 experience.
  • Experience working for a general contractor.
Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands‑on role. You will be on your feet frequently, navigating active job sites with uneven terrain, stairs, ladders, and hoists. The work is physically demanding and requires a full range of motion, including bending, kneeling, and reaching. You’ll need to be comfortable frequently lifting and carrying materials up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.

The role requires the ability to communicate effectively, as well as visual acuity for reading plans and inspecting work.

Work Environment

You’ll spend a significant amount of your time on active construction sites, which means being adaptable to all kinds of weather and moderate to loud noise levels, and comfortable in elevated or confined work areas with moving mechanical equipment and the fast‑paced nature of a project in progress. You will also spend time in a typical office setting with moderate noise levels.
