The Town of Charlemont, MA is seeking a community-oriented Police Chief to lead this newly reorganized police department (approx. budget $178K) consisting of the Chief of Police, one (1) FT officer, and two (2) PT officers. In addition to command and administrative functions, the Chief of Police is required to be highly visible in the community while performing patrol and law enforcement functions.
Charlemont, with approximately 1,300 residents, is a quintessential New England community in the scenic northwestern Massachusetts’ Berkshire Mountains area located along the Deerfield River. With State Route 2 (the Mohawk Trail) traversing the Town, Charlemont has easy access to I-91and is conveniently located to cities in Massachusetts, Vermont, and New York. Charlemont provides a rural setting yet is only a short drive from renowned colleges, universities, and medical facilities.
Charlemont is home to the Berkshire East Mountain Ski Resort and enjoys extensive outdoor recreation opportunities. The Town is governed by a 3-member Select Board with an appointed Town Administrator.
An associate’s degree in a related field is preferred. At least five (5) years as a police officer with two (2) in supervisory, command or administrative positions; or any equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Charlemont is an equal opportunity employer.
