Job Summary
Obtain standard and special procedure EEG recordings and monitor additional physiologic phenomena using appropriate techniques and instrumentation.
Essential Responsibilities- Record physiological data from patients undergoing routine, sleep, and special electroencephalographic (EEG) procedures.
- Record physiological data from in/out patients during Long Term Monitoring (Telemetry). Apply and reset telemetry monitoring equipment for patients returning for continued monitoring.
- Perform intraoperative procedures in the operating room as needed, monitoring physiological data from patients having electrocorticography and WADA. Apply electrodes to patients and remove them at the end of surgery.
- Provide effective first aid for electrophysiological patients who have convulsions or other problems.
- Clean and maintain all equipment, perform minor repairs if needed, and keep the laboratory and data storage areas clean.
- Act as a resource for residents, physicians, and other technicians, providing assistance and advice as necessary.
- High school diploma or GED required. Vocational or technical training in neurodiagnostic or polysomnographic technology preferred.
- 0–1 years of related work experience.
- Advanced skills with Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and other web-based applications. Capable of producing complex documents, performing analysis, and maintaining databases.
- One year of technical healthcare experience.
- Successful completion of an accredited educational program for EEG or Sleep Technologist (AMA Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation).
- Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.
- Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families, and external customers.
- Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures, and policies, and apply them in varied situations.
- Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of the immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
- Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolve service issues in a timely and respectful manner.
Employees must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups:
Neonatal (Birth to 6 months), Young adult (16–30 years), Middle Age (30–60 years), Elderly (60+ years).
Light work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move throughout the hospital campus.
$37.00 – $49.80 per hour (base hourly wage range). Compensation may exceed the base rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices.
