Shift & ScheduleVariable PRN shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Must work 48 hours within a six-week period.

As a Patient Companion at Akron General Medical Center, you will work alongside dedicated caregivers, provide comfort and companionship to patients, and support patient care as directed by the Registered Nurse. This Float Pool position provides exposure to diverse patient populations across multiple units and locations.
Responsibilities- Assist with direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients, including rooming, vital signs, weight and pulse oximetry.
- On closed units, observe three to four patients.
- Ensure patient safety by monitoring catheters, tubes, or other medical equipment for removal or disconnection.
- Accompany and assist patients during transport, tests, transfers, and ambulation.
- Identify and report changes in patient status to an RN or physician.
- Complete documentation and provide hand‑off communication to responsible caregivers.
- High School Diploma or GED (minimum).
- Heart Saver level Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross. If not presently certified, obtain certification within three months of hire.
- Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities such as basic hygiene, skin care and vital signs.
Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity, good eye‑hand coordination, and extensive standing and walking. Must be able to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Personal Protective EquipmentFollow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Influenza Prevention ProgramMust comply with the Cleveland Clinic Health System influenza prevention program, which includes obtaining an influenza vaccination each year or obtaining an approved exemption.
