Job Description

The Maintenance Technician is a skilled mechanical role responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of process equipment and plant systems within the refinery. Comparable to an industrial mechanic or millwright, this individual contributor reports to the Maintenance Foreman and performs complex repairs, troubleshooting, and precision installations with limited supervision. The role requires a high degree of technical competence and a "safety-first" mindset to maintain the integrity of a 24/7 manufacturing facility.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM.

Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance: Execute all work in strict adherence to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and hot work permitting programs.

Rotating Equipment Maintenance: Diagnose, disassemble, and repair centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, including bearing systems and mechanical seals.

Precision Alignment: Utilize laser alignment tools and dial indicators to perform precision shaft alignments on plant machinery.

Piping & Steam Systems: Install and maintain steam tracing systems and steam traps; perform bolted flange assembly and gasket replacement to ensure leak‑free operations.

Vessel & Thermal Support: Assist in the maintenance, internal entry preparation, and inspection of ASME-coded pressure vessels and shell and tube heat exchangers.

Machine Shop Operations: Operate manual lathes, milling machines, and drill presses to fabricate or modify components as needed.

Rigging: Perform basic rigging tasks to safely move heavy equipment such as motors, pumps, and exchanger bundles.

Operational Support: Document all activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and participate in major plant outages and turnarounds.

Required Skills

Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of industrial mechanical maintenance experience in a refinery, chemical plant, or power plant environment.

Education: High School Diploma or GED is required; completion of a recognized Millwright or Mechanical Technology program is preferred.

Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to repair centrifugal pumps, perform laser alignments, and use precision metrology tools like micrometers and calipers.

Manual Machining: Proficiency in operating manual machine shop equipment, including lathes and Bridgeport-style milling machines.

Safety Knowledge: Working knowledge of industrial safety procedures, including LOTO, fall protection, and confined space entry.

Physical Capability: Ability to lift up to 50lbs, climb stairs and ladders up to 120 feet, and work in extreme hot or cold weather conditions.

Blueprint Literacy: Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and P&IDs.
