General Summary
Functioning as the leader of the Care Delivery Team, the Clinical Nurse II (CN II) assumes responsibility for directing care for a team of patients. The CN II demonstrates clinical competency, evidence of nursing leadership, and coordinates the nursing care of a specific group of patients. Nursing care reflects independent assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient’s physical, psychological, and sociocultural needs.
The CN II precepts new employees as assigned and demonstrates competencies in the use of equipment essential in the care of patient age groups as indicated. A CN II is the second step of the Mercy Clinical Ladder and is the competent staff nurse level.
Direct care for a team of patients and demonstrate clinical competency and nursing leadership. Coordinate the care of a specific group of patients, providing independent assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient needs. Precept new employees as assigned and demonstrate competencies in the use of equipment essential for patient care.
Qualifications- Graduation from a state‑accredited school of nursing.
- Current licensure from the state of Ohio as a registered nurse.
- Successful completion of general and unit‑specific orientation and hospital probationary period.
- Obtains or maintains a minimum of 12 contact hours of continuing education annually, including Fire Safety and CPR re‑certification; ACLS is required.
- Theoretical knowledge combined with clinical experience in providing nursing care for a variety of patients.
- Effective verbal and written communication with people of varying backgrounds.
Moderate level of physical exertion required with occasional exposure to adverse conditions.
Shift and HoursScheduled weekly hours: 36.
Work shift:
days (United States), 7 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Every third weekend and every other holiday. Eight hours of on‑call per month. Hours per pay period: 72.
Reports to the Nurse Manager or, in their absence, the Administrative Supervisor. May receive direct instructions from the Charge Nurse or Director. Supervises licensed practical nurses and patient care assistants.
